A Letter From Pastor Bruce
Not Just Another Meeting!
Imagine getting a front-row glimpse of how God is working in the lives of people around you. That’s how I felt last Sunday when we held our ‘congregations’ meeting. People from our Attridge, Broadway and North sites told transformation stories of God moving among us. Their energy and excitement filled the room. It felt like three congregations sharing how God is using us to build the church in three diverse settings (Ephesians 4 in action), and I loved it! I hope you can join us for the next congregations meeting on June 10th.
While we covered a number of topics on Sunday, I will focus on some upcoming changes with our staff.
Our members strongly endorsed Nathan McCorkindale as the first pastor of our north site at the meeting. We are blessed to have someone with his mission mindset and are enthusiastic about how he will apply his gifts in the Silverwood area. Nathan and his family will be joining us in mid August. You can read more about them here.
Harry Strauss is retiring at the end of May – we look forward to celebrating this significant milestone with him and Judy on Sunday evening, June 3rd.
Harry’s current role will be carried on in a different way by other Attridge staff.
Maureen Brown will become the family ministries pastor where she will oversee all ministries from the oldest to the youngest! She will continue to oversee children’s ministries while adding seniors’ ministry (including supervision of Delores). Maureen will be actively involved (with others) in hiring a children’s ministry director to assist with these additional responsibilities.
Kevin Wiens will be taking on responsibility for the seniors’ small groups so that means he will be working with all adult small groups including Alpha. In addition, Kevin will continue to be sharing different aspects of the Attridge site pastor role with me, as he has for the past year.
Other than Harry’s retirement, these changes will take place at the beginning of the new budget year on July 1, 2018.
In the weeks and months ahead, we will be discerning how to sort out the many details related to these changes. Thanks for your patience, prayers and engagement in this process. We are excited about what God will do through these Godly leaders.
Blessings for the journey.
P.S. A few weeks ago, I shared with you seven things I like about my church. Some of you replied with your own reasons. Here’s seven excerpts:
- I like our church because we are willing to try new things
- I am very grateful for the Bible teaching
- This church family is so full of love!
- I am very thankful to God for #7 – the great staff team
- The ministry and outreach is something we really feel we can stand behind
- I love how the church welcomes the least of these
- It’s incredible that people are willing to sacrifice their Tuesday mornings to make sure mom’s feel loved, valued and rested.
