GROVEYOUTH ONLINE

Being the GroveYouth Community during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Because we do not know when GroveYouth programs will reinstate on-site, the GroveYouth team has been working hard to figure out how we can still provide our youth programming and connection during this very unknown time. Our prayer is that we, as a community, could still know, experience, and follow Jesus together even if we can’t physically be together.

We are not declaring that our year as a GroveYouth is done.

We are now in the stages of recreating and finding new ways to connect, utilizing online platforms to make sure our parents and students know what is going on.

Here are the things we are doing…

#1. WEEKLY PARENTS//CAREGIVERS COMMUNICATION:

We want to keep parents and caregivers up to date with how we are trying to keep students and leaders connected. We will be sending out a short parent email weekly on Wednesdays. We will also continue to communicate basic program details in the GroveYouth Parents Facebook group and via the Remind text app. For this week’s email, click the RESOURCES button below.

#2. DISCOURAGING IN-PERSON SMALL GROUP GATHERINGS & ONE ON ONE MEETINGS:

Because this is such a critical time to limit interactions, we are discouraging in-person small group gatherings or one on one meetings between leaders and students at this time.

#3. APRIL PLANS FOR INTERACTION ONLINE:

We are going to host big group virtual Tuesday and Friday night gatherings on Zoom every other week. This will include a big group game, announcements, teaching, and worship—just like a regular GroveYouth night would include. Students will end the night connecting with their small group on whatever platform they choose. On the alternate weeks, we will follow the pattern we have already established with an online teaching reflection and virtual small groups.

DATES FOR THESE GATHERINGS

SR. HIGH:

  • Big Group – April 7th & 21st
  • Small Groups – April 14th & 28th

JR. HIGH:

  • Big Group – April 3rd & 17th
  • Small Groups – April 10th & 24th

DAILY FEATURES

We have loved engaging with our students over Instagram! We have found it to be fun and interactive. Because we know students interact in all different ways, we are planning to add some different platforms for interaction that can feel a little more diverse. Each day we plan to have a way that students can connect to something fun or a spiritual practice.

PLATFORMS WE ARE PROMOTING

We realize that caregivers can be cautious when allowing students to engage in online platforms. That is a great thing! Because of this, we are trying to promote the use of platforms that can be monitored easily and are safest to use. These are the platforms we will use for GroveYouth in April.

ZOOM:

Zoom is an online conference calling platform that can allow tons of people to be on the same video call at the same time. When we use Zoom either Spencer or Chandra or one of the small group leaders will be the host, generating a link to send to the participants. Strangers cannot get into this video-chat unless they have the link.

INSTAGRAM:

Instagram is an app for photo posting and sharing. On this app you can post a photo or video that stays on your feed that anyone can access at any time or post a photo or video to your story that expires after 24 hours. Instagram accounts can be followed by strangers so we recommend your student’s account being set at private. Students can still approve people on their own so please have conversations with your student about who they are allowing to see their content.

DISCORD:

Discord is an app that acts as a chatroom for people to come at any time and leave comments, photos, or engage in discussions and gameplay. On Discord you can also screen-share so that students could play an online game together or watch one another play video games. It will act as a place our whole community can interact regularly. We will have a GroveYouth server (shared space) so only students from our youth programming can participate. We ask students and leaders to use their real names on Discord so we know their identities.

TO ACCESS THESE THINGS…

STUDENTS:

  • Follow us on instagram (@groveyouthjrhigh // @groveyouthsrhigh)
  • Contact your small group leader for information about small group times and platforms
  • Contact your small group leader for the Large Group Zoom link

PARENTS:

RESOURCES:

  • Head to our Resources page for small group teaching guides, bible studies, and more!

We hope that some form of continued routine connection can be helpful for our students at this time.  And we look forward to see the things it produces in our relationships!

Peace,
Spencer, Chandra & Lizzie (The GroveYouth Staff Team)

GroveYouth exists to know, experience, and follow Jesus together. We want to be a community seeking to know Jesus, discovering our identity in Him, engaging in the local church, and sharing Jesus’ love with others.
