Our stories link us to each other, fusing unseen bonds that connect our hearts in camaraderie. Stories engage the whole person. They draw us in, engaging us mentally and emotionally, and often igniting physical responses like knee-slappin’ laughter or heartfelt tears of empathy, or an offer of sympathy through a hug, a note, or a text message. We always react to stories with our whole selves: mentally, emotionally, physically.

Too often we limit ourselves to our own experiences of God. But when we share our stories with each other, we come away will a fuller appreciation of the many ways in which God works in our lives. Our understanding is increased as we are open to the perspectives of others. On this page we will hear stories from our church community and about our church community. Our goal is to share with you insights from the past year regarding how the Holy Spirit is using Forest Grove Community Church as an instrument to facilitate Transformation in Jesus Christ in the lives of our church body.

ESOL Study Group

Below is a Story of Transformation from Lori Peters. Lori is one of our long term local partners, and also leads an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) LIFEtime class each Sunday.

We have had a great year in the English Class this year.  After the second week of class, a group of four ladies approached and asked if we could study the Bible together.  That led to a weekly Bible study with from 4-10 people depending on the week.  We have been studying foundations for faith and everyone has learned many new things about the Bible and have built meaningful relationships.  Many of our students have visited the service and enjoyed the worship and have commented on the joy that they have seen through the worship.  It has been so wonderful to walk alongside and answer different questions that people have and also to serve and help with practical needs that the students have faced in transitioning to life in Saskatoon.

esol-bbqPlease pray for our students to keep growing in their English language and for them to experience God’s love through all the teachers.  It has been fun to see the class grow, we have over 25 people who have attended over this year.  As a class we have had a chance to build memories together having a Christmas party, the first time for many to eat turkey and after a lesson on BBQ, camping and picnics, the class asked for a BBQ to experience the fun of a typical Canadian summer activity with friends and family.

As we have studied this year the growth that students have experienced and the new members that have joined our class could make it possible to split into two classes in the upcoming year to better help both the beginners and the more advanced students to take steps forward in their language.  Pray for God to continue to raise up volunteers to help our friends grow in their language abilities.

We have had amazing teachers and volunteers, including some Chinese high school students.  It has been a great year!  Thanks to everyone for their dedication and hard work!
