Fear is one of the most powerful forces known to man - it can be both motivating and immobilizing. When life's challenges overwhelm us, they appear as giants that immobilize us from moving forward. The wonderful narratives of 1 Samuel show us examples of that, but also examples of people who respond with courage despite their fears. The primary characters are Hannah, Samuel, Saul, and David. As these people walk in faithful obedience to God, they become giants in their own right, joining with the central character - God himself, in his story. These are stories that reveal real life, living with fears, hopes, and dreams - with constant choices of how we will respond to each. Our choices matter and make a bigger difference than we often realize. We see that played out in the lives of these individuals, and we too are invited to live our lives in response to God, not immobilized by fear.
