Reducing Poverty in Saskatoon

Forest Grove Community Church is involved with the Saskatoon Poverty Reduction Partnership. It is a partnership of key agencies and groups in Saskatoon with a focus on bringing people together in a city-wide, multi-sectored effort to reduce poverty. In other words it is people, churches, government, social agencies, etc. all connecting to work together to fight poverty rather than each on their own.  You can learn more about this partnership on the SPRP website.

At FGCC we believe part of our calling as a church is to live out the true worship and fasting described in Isaiah 58.

If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday. (vs. 9-10)

God calls us as Christians to a life that is generous and sacrificial toward others. One that loves and cares for the hungry, oppressed and marginalized in society. We want to encourage our church to be aware of the poverty within Saskatoon, as well as get involved in reducing poverty. Here are 2 ways you can become involved:

  • Learn and serve together with your small group. The button to the right will provide you with a small group package that you can use for bible study and further ideas to get your group learning more and doing more about poverty together.
  • Learn and serve on your own. Use the small group package to further your understanding of poverty, and then connect with an organization listed to understand more about their work and how you can get involved.
